Dynamic Storefront Messaging

Dynamic storefront messaging lets you show real-time order capacity status to customers. Use the {REM_QTY} placeholder to display remaining order slots, creating urgency and managing customer expectations.

Setting Up Storefront Messages

Customize the messages your customers see when your store opens, closes, reaches capacity, or when a product limit is hit:

  1. Open the OrderRules dashboard
  2. Go to Settings > Messages
  3. Customize each message type with your own text
  4. Use the {REM_QTY} placeholder to display dynamic capacity
  5. Click Save to apply changes

Messages are displayed on your storefront via Shopify's theme app embed — no code edits required. Changes take effect immediately.

Using the Placeholder

The {REM_QTY} placeholder displays the number of remaining order slots or quantity available in real time.

Example

If your daily order limit is 50 and 38 orders have been placed:

  • Message template: "Only {REM_QTY} order slots left today!"
  • Rendered message: "Only 12 order slots left today!"

The counter updates in real time as orders are placed, so customers always see the most current availability.

Use Cases

  • Create urgency: "Hurry! Only {REM_QTY} slots remaining — book now."
  • Transparency: "{REM_QTY} of 100 orders available this week."
  • Scarcity messaging: "Limited capacity: {REM_QTY} orders left in stock."
  • Product-level: "Only {REM_QTY} units left at this price."

Message Types

OrderRules supports customization for the following message types:

Message TypeWhen DisplayedExample
Store OpenStore is accepting orders normally"We're currently accepting orders. {REM_QTY} slots available today."
Store ClosedStore is outside business hours"We're currently closed. We'll reopen tomorrow at 9 AM."
Capacity ReachedDaily/weekly/monthly order limit is hit"We've reached capacity for today. Please try again tomorrow."
Product Limit ReachedPer-product limit is hit"This item is sold out. {REM_QTY} units of another product available."

Theme App Embed

OrderRules displays messages through Shopify's theme app embed system. This means:

  • No code edits needed — The app works with your existing theme automatically
  • Automatic integration — Messages appear in the product page, cart, or checkout based on your theme
  • Mobile responsive — Messages display correctly on desktop, tablet, and mobile
  • Theme compatibility — Works with default Shopify themes and custom themes

If messages are not appearing on your storefront, ensure that:

  • Your theme supports Shopify theme app embeds (all modern themes do)
  • The OrderRules app is installed and active
  • Messages are enabled in your OrderRules settings

Best Practices

Keep Messages Short
Display text should be 2-3 sentences maximum. Customers often scan storefronts quickly, so clear and concise messaging converts better than lengthy explanations.

Include Reopening Information
When your store is closed, let customers know when you'll reopen: "We're closed now but reopen at 9 AM EST tomorrow."

Use Urgency Sparingly
Scarcity messaging is effective, but overusing it damages credibility. Use it only when capacity is genuinely limited (e.g., when fewer than 20% of slots remain).

Match Your Brand Voice
Keep messaging consistent with your store's tone. A luxury brand should use formal language; a casual brand can be more relaxed.

Test Across Devices
Preview messages on desktop, tablet, and mobile to ensure they fit your storefront layout.

Availability

Dynamic storefront messaging is available on all OrderRules plans:
